Ben Ramsbottom - Medical Director & CEO

Experience:

Ben is a PhD molecular and cell biologist who has experience both within the pharmaceutical industry and within the publishing industry that serves it. For several years, he worked as an Editor of a publication that identified the latest discoveries in science which support drug discovery. This provided him with a broad background in almost all therapeutic areas relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to this, he has worked as a research scientist for AstraZeneca and The University of Glasgow. As the Medical Director at Random42, Ben writes scripts and provides continual scientific support for all projects, ensuring that they are scientifically correct and accurate.

 

Richard Grethe - Chief Financial Officer

Education:

BA (Hons) Accountancy – University of Portsmouth

FCA – Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales

Experience:

Richard is a Chartered Accountant that has worked in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry for 20 years.  He trained at KPMG, but since qualification has worked in the pharmaceutical industry in the branded and generic sectors. After working for Wellcome plc, Medeva, Celltech and UCB, Richard left in 2003 and was one of the founding members of Focus Pharmaceuticals in that year. Focus successfully sold the business to AMCO in October 2014, with Richard managing the exit process. Richard has a very broad financial, commercial and operational background including Private Equity, Strategic Planning, Corporate Finance, Fund raising, Banking Relationships and all aspects of financial reporting. He is also very hands on with respect to the business and enjoys helping businesses grow to their full potential.

Matthew Sugars

Matthew Sugars - Creative Director

Experience:

Matthew has over 12 years of experience creating 3D animation and graphics for broadcasters such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4 as well as The Discovery Channel and The History Channel. Matthew has worked on many high profile projects including several episodes of ‘Horizon’ for BBC and a major US adaptation of Brian Greene’s  bestselling book ‘The Elegant Universe’. As well as a career in broadcast graphics he has also taught 3D animation and photography at a local college.  Matthew is also a keen landscape photographer and has had his work exhibited. As Creative Director Matthew is responsible for leading the animation team and for co-ordinating the overall look for projects.

Melanie Farrant

Melanie Farrant - Client Services Director

Education:

BFA Graphic Design – The Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia

Experience:

Melanie is a seasoned marketing and design professional with a focus on client services. As Client Services Director she acts as the client liaison for new and existing business, manages and strengthens client relationships, and supervises a team of account executives. Over the last ten years she has worked in a variety of agency and in-house roles in The United States, The Bahamas and The United Kingdom in the fields of hospitality, charity, food and beverage, luxury goods, sports and entertainment, and real estate. Her core talents are in project management, graphic design, art direction, social media and strategic marketing, all of which play a pivotal role in Random42’s continued reputation as the global leader in medical animation.

Michèle Venn - Account Director

Education:

BSc (Hons) Genetics – University College London

Experience:

Michèle has previously worked for a CRO and a pharmaceutical company in data management for clinical trials. This enabled her to gain an insight into the process involved in bringing a new product to market and the challenges that are faced along the way. In this role she was part of a team working on a large phase III study and also undertook training of new staff at an outsourced location. At Random42 she is responsible for account handling and is a main point of contact for issues relating to the financial side of projects. She is involved in most of the projects to some degree, ranging from voice over coordination to invoicing and translations.

Experience:

Jenny is a PhD molecular biologist who has extensive experience handling projects across a broad range of therapeutic areas. Prior to joining Random42 she worked as a scientist both in The United Kingdom and The United States, allowing her to gain an appreciation of the various challenges faced within modern research. Much of this work focused on therapeutic areas that are relevant to pharmaceutical industry. As Senior Scientific Account Director, Jenny is responsible for account handling in addition to working alongside the Medical Director where she participates in script development and provides general scientific support for projects.

Elly Spreckley - Scientific Account Director

PhD Neuroendocrinology – Imperial College London

Experience:

Elly is a PhD neuroendocrinolgist with extensive in vivo experience researching the regulation of appetite by gut hormones. Previous to Random42, Elly had several reviews and research articles published, in addition to working as a scientific copy editor for oncology-based journals. This provided her with a broad background of research and writing experience relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. Since joining Random42 as a Scientific Account Director, Elly has enjoyed working across a wide range of therapeutic areas in script development and scientific project content.

Lara Sanders - Scientific Account Director

Education:

Experience:

Lara is a PhD scientist, her doctorate having focussed on platinum chemotherapy mode of action and resistance in cancer. She has fifteen years’ experience as a research and development scientist in both diagnostics and pharmaceutical industries, five working in molecular virology diagnostics for Abbott Laboratories, and ten working for Pfizer on both small molecule projects as well as in therapeutic vaccines research, overall covering a wide range of technologies and disease areas. She brings this experience to her role as Scientific Account Director at Random42 where she participates in writing scripts and providing scientific support for projects, besides account handling.

Bradley Meehan - Scientific Account Director

Education:

PhD Molecular and Cellular Physiology – University of Liverpool

Experience:

Bradley is a molecular and cellular biologist with experience of both in vitro and in vivo disease modelling. He has previous experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca working on a wide variety of projects, providing him with a broad background in many therapeutic areas. Bradley is responsible for account handling and works alongside the Medical Director to develop scripts and provides support for all projects to ensure scientific accuracy.

Experience:

Whilst studying for her Masters, Pooja has learnt how drugs are designed and optimised from lead compounds, their mode(s) of action and pharmacology, and how they are developed through trials and into manufacture. With the skills she has developed from University, she is able to apply this to her current role as an Account Director, responsible for account handling and building new relationships to drive new business with Pharma, Biotech and other adjacent Markets.

Laura Price - Account Director

Education:

BSc (Hons) Biochemistry – The University of Birmingham

Experience:

Laura is a Biochemistry graduate with experience in pharmaceutical marketing, focusing on new business development. Laura began her career as an agency account handler, here she was able to develop strong client relationships on both UK and global projects, and was involved in the project management of a number of accounts. At Random42 she is responsible for the growth and development of new business, and strengthening relationships with new clients. Other responsibilities include developing proposals for new and existing business development leads and overseeing R&D pipeline strategy within the pharmaceutical industry.

Jessica-Tierney

Jessica Tierney - Account Manager

Experience:

Jess joined Random42 after graduating with a degree in Medical Science, her degree and interest in science has provided the perfect foundation to begin a career in this field.  As an Account Manager, she is usually involved in the initial stages of the projects and preparing project proposals. She is responsible for developing new client relationships within pharma, biotech and other adjacent vertical markets.

Lucy Roberts - Marketing Manager

Experience:

Lucy joined Random42 after completing her Master’s degree in Science Communication at The University of Sheffield. Previous to this she worked in business consultancy, which led to the discovery of her interest in combining her passion for science with the business world. She also has previous experience in scientific PR and digital marketing, working part-time throughout her studies. Lucy brings this previous experience to her role at Random42, where she is responsible for the management of various aspects of Random42’s marketing strategy, including multi-channel and digital marketing, PR and communications, reporting and statistical analysis and events management.

Harriet Oddy - Account Executive

Experience:

Harriet graduated from University College London, where she studied Biomedical Science, having a particular interest in physiology, pharmacology and neuroscience. After graduating, she spent six months working in the Pathology Department at St. George's Hospital in Tooting, before joining Random42. These experiences gave her a suitable grounding to move into medical communication. As an Account Executive, Harriet is involved in the primary stages of projects and establishing client relationships within the pharma, biotech and adjacent markets.

Chris Burnand - Account Executive

Experience:

After completing various business modules during his time studying Cellular and Molecular Biology at Newcastle University, Chris realised he wanted to continue his passion for science in a commercial capacity. At Random42, some of Chris’ responsibilities include creating proposals and building strong relationships with clients to secure new business. He also stays up to date with the pharmaceutical market by writing and presenting industry reports. These include finding new potential clients, pharmaceutical business trends such as acquisitions/mergers and researching the FDA and EMA for clinical trial news which aids in helping oversee our R&D pipeline strategy.

Leah Zard - Account Executive

Education:

Experience:

Leah joined Random42 after graduating with a degree in Zoology, her scientific background has provided a solid foundation to begin a career in this field. As an Account Executive, she is responsible for coordinating voice overs and language translations, as well as handling video edits and updates once animations are completed.

Neelam Kumari - Account Executive

Experience:

Neelam joined Random42 shortly after graduating with a degree in Biomedical Science. This aided her understanding of the procedures involved in the pharmaceutical industry, from the discovery of drugs, to the manufacturing and marketing processes. This knowledge enables Neelam to carry out her role as an Account Executive, where her responsibilities include, strengthening relationships with new and existing clients and account management.

Hugo Paice FRSA - Founder / Director

Education:

BA (Hons) Sculpture - Kingston University

MA Computer Visualisation - Bournemouth University

Experience:

Hugo has 25 years of experience producing scientific animation for the pharmaceutical, biotech and film/TV industries. As the founder and director at Random42 he has produced over 400 scientific films and won over 100 industry awards. Originally trained as a sculptor he became interested in using computer graphics to create simulations of organic life. Hugo created Random42 to showcase this computer art in exhibitions and then naturally magnetised towards creating animation to show the complex mechanisms within the human body at the cellular and molecular levels for global pharmaceutical companies. Hugo continues to encourage the team at Random42 to see the true elegance of nature and reflect this in their work.
