We work with clients across the world, with 90% of our clients based in the US. We can provide a member of the team on EU and/or US time to dial in to calls and meetings. Additionally, for our US clients, the time difference works in our favour, as we can receive feedback once the day has finished in the UK and implement any changes before the day starts in the US. Due to the nature of our work, regular status calls are usually sufficient to discuss updates. However, we make business trips throughout the year and are always happy to schedule in-person meetings too.

Yes, Random42 regularly partners with overarching healthcare medcomms agencies to deliver on shared goals and deliver the best possible experience for our clients. We have a dedicated project management team to work seamlessly alongside agency partners, ensuring a collaborative experience from start to finish.

All content and services, creative and scientific, are produced by Random42 in-house, without the use of subcontractors. Random42 do however, outsource for voiceover artists and where translations/localisation are needed.

Our Process & Approach

Our process is science-led and highly collaborative. It begins with a discovery phase to understand your objectives, followed by scriptwriting, storyboarding, animation, and final production, with client reviews at every key stage.

Every project is supported by a dedicated core team that includes at least two PhD-qualified scientists to ensure scientific accuracy, a creative team of talented artists from the TV and film industry, and project-specific support from expert interactive developers and project managers.

Random42 has a team of in-house Project Managers who will be your main points of contact throughout the duration of the project and ensure fluid conversation with our clients, leading to a smooth process throughout. Project managers lead communications, internal processes, quality control, and ultimately ensure that agreed-upon milestones are achieved. They will oversee the entire project from kick-off to final delivery and ensure synergy across the Scientific and Creative teams. We will also assign at least two of our PhD Scientists to the project, who will be responsible for the background research and script writing. This team will also make sure that everything is scientifically accurate from a visual and narrative perspective. Weekly or fortnightly status updates, either in the form of an email or a call, are provided by the assigned Science and Project Management team, following project kick-off and depending on your preference.

All Projects at Random42 are managed by PhD-qualified scientists who oversee from script writing and referencing, all the way through to final delivery of the project. All of our Science team members are qualified in medical legal review software and procedures commonly used in the industry, such as Veeva. All Account Handlers also have scientific degrees, allowing for clear communication from capabilities call to execution of projects.

Random42 ensures scientific accuracy by having our in-house PhD scientists lead the scriptwriting and work directly with our artists to guarantee every visual asset, down to the individual 3D model, is precise. This content is then rigorously validated at every stage by the client’s own medical and regulatory teams. To facilitate this, our PhD team is fully trained to support this process across all major medical and legal review platforms.

Various procedures are in place at Random42 to ensure that quality is maintained and that the different deliverables for each draft are stored and recorded. This occurs through our internal content management system, which tracks each project from start to finish. From the editorial side, we have a large team of PhD scientists that thoroughly check each project, with each asset destined for the client checked by at least three members of the team. Visual quality is also checked by members of the production team; each project must be approved by the Creative and Production Directors before the content is sent over to the client.

Yes, we have an in-house team that handles the process from start to finish. Our Scientific team will handle the script phase, and they will then collaborate with our Creative team to put together a fully rendered 3D storyboard- this allows our clients to envision what the end piece will look like, with colours, textures, lighting, etc. Once this is signed off, we then progress onto the animation phase, where our animators will bring your piece to life. Finally, we will have the professional voiceover recorded. We have over 500 voiceover artists on file, so we will send you a selection to choose from based on your preferences. Our trusted music composer will also put together a bespoke track to fit your piece, and then the final completed HD animation, along with full global copyright.

An average project timeline at Random42 takes between 14-16 weeks, including rounds of revisions and med-legal review.

Yes, we do work with clients and agencies who provide their own scripts. We are happy to review any scripts provided and make recommendations based on our scientific storytelling approach. We work to a documentary pace of two words per second (120 words per minute).

Project costings are based on the scope, complexity, and length of the content, as well as the specific technologies used (e.g., animation, VR, MR). After an initial discovery call to understand your needs, we provide a detailed and transparent quote.

The cost of a medical animation is dependent on the number of minutes and the resolution (HD or 4K). We produce all content in-house, from medical writing to production through final delivery, so there are no hidden or unexpected costs.

Our project cost includes script, referencing, storyboard, animation, voice-over artist, editing, music, and effects. Full global copyright is also included, in addition to a set of images from the animation. We also provide a complimentary visual toolkit with all our animation projects, allowing companies to enhance brand identity across multiple platforms.

We offer a full range of bespoke 3D and 2D scientific animations, each uniquely created to develop a distinct look and feel that is perfectly aligned with your audience and communication goals.

We recommend, on average, around 3-4 minutes for our typical animations. Depending on the end use of the animation, we can advise on whether we believe a shorter or longer animation would be suited, based on our previous experience. Here at Random42, we use “documentary pace”, which is 2 words a second. When beginning to think about telling your story, this is key to consider.

We provide a visual toolkit with every project, repurposing assets from the core animation into a suite of digital marketing tools. This includes high-resolution images for presentations and online usage, looping clips for websites, and short-form videos for social media.
