Welcoming our New Starters (Remotely) – January 2021

20th January 2021 Company News

Since March 2020 things at Random42 have been a little different. As with many companies in the UK and across the world, our teams have had to adapt to working remotely from home during these unprecedented times. Team members who have joined Random42 in recent months have had to adapt quickly to a new team and a new job, as well as a new way of working.

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to welcome our newest team members in person, but we would like to welcome them ‘remotely’ by sharing a little about each of them.

Introducing the newest additions to our team…

Naomi Carlow – Account Executive

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science – University of East Anglia

Random42 Naomi Carlow

Naomi graduated from the University of East Anglia, after completing a degree in Biomedical Science. Naomi has worked in various client-facing roles after graduating to save for traveling. Naomi’s role at Random42 as an account executive involves attracting new clientele within the Pharma and Biotech industries and maintaining current client relationships. Outside of work she enjoys holidays, good food, and spending time with friends.

Emma James – Scientific Account Executive

BSc (Hons) Pharmacology – University of Portsmouth
PhD Cell Biology – Queen Mary University of London

Random42 Emma James

After completion of her BSc in Pharmacology, Emma spent some time working in the biotechnology industry before returning to academia. Emma was awarded a PhD in Cell Biology for her research on the use of metabolites as biomarkers of cellular senescence and went on to extend this work as a postdoctoral researcher, studying the relationship between markers of cellular senescence and human ageing phenotypes. Following this, she took a scientific role at a pharmaceutical company, where she predominantly worked on vaccine development. Now at Random42, Emma supports scientific projects, developing scientific scripts and storyboards across a range of therapeutic areas.  Outside of work, you will find her enjoying walks, gazing up at trees, and cooking/eating all the food.

Hannah Ng – Science Intern

BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences (Neuroscience) with Professional Training Year – University of Exeter
MSc by Research Neuroscience – University of Leeds

Random42 Hannah Ng

Hannah graduated from the University of Leeds, after completing an MSc by Research degree, where her research focused on the characterization of an in-vivo model of a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. During her professional training year, Hannah spent one year working in Japan at the RIKEN Centre for Brain Science in the Laboratory for Affiliative Social Behaviour. At Random42, Hannah supports the Science Team as part of her Scientific Internship. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys playing badminton and attempting to bake.

Jakub Ziaja – Junior Technical Artist

Game Art – Escape Studios London

Random42 Jakub Ziaja

Whilst studying art Jakub was always drawn towards the tech responsible for any scene running in real-time. He is mostly self-taught in Unreal’s shader creation and blueprint logic, which has allowed him to develop tools for the Epic Games marketplace. Jakub also started learning Houdini, opening completely new workflows. At Random42 Jakub combines everything he has learned to help create beautiful, abstract environments and interactive experiences all in UE4. Outside of work hours he likes to work out to counter his “sitting” lifestyle and loves to play with large cats.

Ana Beretsos – Junior Project Manager

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences – Newcastle University

Random42 Ana Beretsos

Ana graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Biomedical sciences. After graduating, Ana lived and worked in St Anton, Austria, for a season before gaining experience in marketing and client management. Ana joins Random42 from the conference industry, where she was a Conference Producer and Manager for life science events. Here at Random42, Ana manages projects internally between both our science and production teams, as well as externally with clients. Outside of work, you will find Ana in the gym, exploring the world, getting lost in a book, attending a rugby match (supporting Wales!), or doing something that involves food. No matter what she is doing she will be listening to music.
